Valley in Heaven - Kotli Sattian

The evergreen hills with its gentle & steep slopes, the cool, fresh & health giving fountains, the dancing & singing streams, the winding roads & paths that wind through the lively pine woods & the bracing climate beckon the wanderer to this hilly area.
Description
Kotli Sattian, a subdivision of district Rawalpindi (Punjab) is bounded on the east by the river Jhelum, on the southwest by the river Soan: an ancient historical river of sub-continent, and on the north west by the Murree sub division: a scenic hill station of Pakistan. It is also bounded on the south by Kahuta tehsil. Kotli Sattian touches the Kashmir territory on the east by bridging the river Jhelum and on the south west, It is the next door neighbour of Islamabad, the federal capital.
The different areas of the sub division vary greatly from each other. The highest point is at Phofandi peak by the east of Patriata spur which is over 7,035 feet above sea level. The lowest point is on the river Jhelum near patton which is only 1,587 feet above sea level.

"Weed Flower Micros II," my second set of these minute & marvelous gems:

www.flickr.com/photos/motorpsiclist/sets/72157627844487270/

.

The photographs in my Weed Flower Micro sets may appear to be close-ups of regular-sized flowers – they are not!

These are micro (macro) photographs of tiny little flowers which bloom on ordinary weeds found in my lawn.

How tiny? The largest weed flower in the set is only, when measured across its widest part from petal tip to petal tip, 3/4" in diameter (19mm)!

Some of these miniscule flowers are so small that the entire blossom you are looking at is 1/4" in diameter (6mm)…or smaller. Again, that’s measuring from petal tip to petal tip across the widest part of the bloom.

The smallest part of a weed flower that I have managed to successfully shoot and achieve good detail in is a photo I made of a bud that measured LESS than 1/32" in diameter (0.7mm) across its widest part!

For relative size references I have included a photo of certain flowers and buds next to the head of an ordinary paper match, which dwarfs the blooms and buds.

It’s delightful to discover the beauty, complexity, and variety in something so small that it’s easily ignored, taken for granted, dismissed as a pest, or just downright difficult to see with the naked eye.

And it’s an even greater delight to realize that this incredible beauty has been growing wild in my lawn, year after year, right under my un-seeing eyes as I’ve repeatedly mown them down with my lawn mower, never realizing the unseen beauty that I was trampling under my feet.

It’s the most challenging form of photography that I pursue, but I have a lot of fun making these photos for us to look at; I hope you enjoy viewing these as much as I do.

Pololu Valley

+1 in the comments taken from the top of the road

My film came back early! I've scanned both rolls of slide and will be on a film upload spree for the next week or so :D

This valley was absolutely stunning. It's the northernmost valley right near the top of the island and you drive up to the lookout where it dead ends and then you can to hike down a steep rocky trail with many switchbacks to get down to the black sand beach! The water is extremely rough (as you can see by the white caps) and the black sand is smooth and really neat! This was one of my favourite stops and there was also a beautiful forest and Jurassic Park esque valley (which will be uploaded later).

I much prefer the image made with my Hassy over the 5d II...it has so much character and really captured the depth of the landscape. I'll upload the canon file soon and you can see which you like more!

I'm really glad I lugged my hassy out everywhere I went as well. After being inspired heavily by Danielle aka manyfires and her incredible work with film and especially her shots made with the Hasselblad, it made me want to get out there and use it to capture these stunning scenes!

Please check out her amazingly gorgeous photostream here which never ceases to amaze me :D

Horseshoe Bend Arizona

Glyn Lowe Photoworks posted a photo:

Horseshoe Bend Arizona

Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. The bend is locally known as "King Bend." It is located five miles (8.7 km) downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, about four miles or 6 km southwest of Page. Accessible via a 0.5 mile (0.8 km) hike from U.S. Route 89, it can be viewed from the steep cliff above. According to Google terrain maps, the overlook is 4,200 feet above sea level and the Colorado River is at 3,200 feet above sea level making it a breathtaking 1,000 foot drop.
