I always forget this stuff. I'm a programmer not a network guy so I don't really try to remember this stuff. So now you don't either, bookmark this page and you'll always know what the hell a slash twenty four is.
To connect to the console port of a cisco router do this:
Connect the blue cisco cable to your serial port of your computer
Connect the other end to the console port of the router
Boot up your computer
Open your serial terminal program In windows I use Hyperterminal, on OpenBSD(*nix) I use minicom.
Configure your connection for 9600bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control
That should do it, you're all set, when you open the connection you should see the cisco router
