Nearly 14,000 movie theaters operated by the three largest chains are set to install digital projection systems from Digital Cinema Implementation Partners, a joint venture of AMC Entertainment, Cinemark Holdings and Regal Entertainment Group. The three chains formed DCIP to deploy digital projection systems at movie theaters in the U.S. and Canada. The rollout of the digital screens was made possible by $660 million of new financing.
CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves has put advertisers and local affiliates on notice: both will soon be paying more. Advertisers will face higher prices for commercials running on the network. And CBS TV affiliates will pay more in the form of substantial portions of the retransmission consent fees they receive from cable operators -- or risk losing their network affiliations. The CBS chief insisted that the scatter market was commanding greater than 30 percent increases over last year's upfront marketplace.
